Dan began his career with BC Parks as a planner and moved into regional land use planning with the Province of BC until he left the government in 2004 to become the General Manager for a forestry association. Narissa Chadwick is a Senior Planner in the Local Government Department of the BC Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Prior to joining the Ministry in 2005, Narissa worked with the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and the Fraser Basin Council.

Narissa works with local governments to support integrated sustainability planning. More recently, her responsibilities have included designing and providing guidance to local governments on the establishment of greenhouse gas reduction targets, policy and action in their Official Community Plans and Regional Growth Strategies. Collecting and sharing examples of how greenhouse gas mitigations activities are being implemented across the province is now a key focus.

Narissa holds a BA from Trent University and an MA in Planning from UBC.

Since 1990, Steve Finn has been an Assistant Instructor, Instructor and Program Head within the School of Construction and the Environment (SOCE) at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

One of his responsibilities is overseeing the Center of Energy Systems Applications (CESA). CESA houses the highly successful Sustainable Energy Management program (SEMAC) created in partnership with BC Hydro, together with funding support from Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency. He works closely with BCIT’s Energy Manager, Alexandre Hebert and Energy Specialist, Andrea Linsky in the ever-evolving field of energy education.

Stuart Gairns is the BC Hydro co-funded Industrial Energy Manager at Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership’s (CPLP), PG Pulp and Intercon Mill sites in Prince George, BC. As Energy Leader he works with teams from both mills to implement the site SEMP by improving efficiency, generation, maintenance and employee behaviours.

From 2005 to 2009 Stuart was an Area Engineer for CPLP Northwood in the pulping group and steam plants. Previously, he worked in Austria in the design, development and implementation of pharmaceutical plant expansions, while the first 10 years of his career were in the design and development of chemical plants and related process equipment, as well as in project management and plant commissioning.

Stuart has a M.Eng. (Chemical) from McGill and a B.A.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia.

Mark Hartman works in the Sustainability Group at the City of Vancouver as the Green Building Programs Manager. He is responsible for meeting city council’s targets to lower the energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions in new and existing buildings.

In addition to working on the Green Homes Program, Vancouver’s upcoming commercial and residential renovation by-law, Mark has established a number of community incentive and financing programs. These encourage conservation in existing residential and commercial buildings to help Vancouver work towards its goal of becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020.

Mark has worked for 25 years in the energy industry including his former role at a gas utility as the DSM manager responsible for energy conservation programs. Mark holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and is a LEED AP.

Steve Walker is a Senior Officer with Strategic Outreach within the Buildings Division of Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Office of Energy Efficiency. He works with commercial and institutional building stakeholders in Central and Western Canada and the Northern Territories.

Steve came to NRCan’s Buildings Division in 2004 after two years with the Environmental Services group at Public Works and Government Services Canada. He is now in his second stint with the Division, returning recently after four years with NRCan’s Real Property and Environmental Management Division. He has a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Sheffield, England.
