About the Power Smart Excellence Awards

What are the Power Smart Excellence Awards?

The Power Smart Excellence Awards is a program established by BC Hydro to recognize the outstanding energy efficient business customers and partners. Every year, BC Hydro awards and honours Power Smart business leaders throughout BC who invest in the energy efficiency future of their business. These businesses incorporate sound energy management into their day-to-day operations and make energy efficiency and conservation a way of doing business. The 2009 Power Smart Excellence Awards were presented at a dinner and ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver on May 26, 2009.

What are Power Smart Leaders?

The Power Smart Leaders are an elite club of BC Hydro customers that represent the upper echelons of leadership through their exceptional year-over-year commitment to energy efficiency. These organizations have prioritized energy management in every aspect of their business and as a result, they consistently meet or exceed their own energy-savings targets and institute a culture of energy conservation in their own organizations.

How do you get nominated for an award?

The 2009 Power Smart Excellence Awards involve two nomination processes. The first is an internal nomination process conducted by BC Hydro representatives who submit nominations for customers based on projects completed, overall commitment to energy management, innovation or partnerships with BC Hydro.

The second nomination process is an external nomination process for the Workplace Conservation Leadership Award. For the second year, BC Hydro business customers were invited to nominate someone from within their organization. Self nominations were also accepted.

What is the Workplace Conservation Leadership Award?

This award was added to the family of Power Smart Excellence Awards last year to recognize individuals who embody a conservation ethic within their organizations. These individuals have promoted a conservation philosophy, even though their main role in a commercial, industrial or government organization is not energy conservation. For more information, visit the Workplace Conservation Leadership Award section.

Who is eligible for a Workplace Conservation Leadership Award?

Individuals from business organizations located throughout British Columbia are eligible for nomination. Nominees must be an employee of the company, not a consultant, and they must have been involved with energy conservation campaigns within the January to December 2008 calendar year. Also, energy conservation cannot be the main function or role of the individual at the workplace.

Where can I find out more about eligibility and the award criteria details?

Full details on eligibility and award criteria can be found in the nomination package.
